Ralph H. Scherer, age 90, of Penn Twp., formerly of Cowansville and Pittsburgh’s Northside, died Wednesday afternoon, May 11, 2016 at Elmcroft of Saxonburg.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mathilda Killmeyer Scherer.

Ralph had been the founder and owner of Scherer Locksmiths in Pittsburgh.

He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II., and was a member of the Cowansville American Legion.  He also belonged to Teutonia Mannerchor in Pgh.

Ralph enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Emma Hahn Scherer, a daughter, Nancy Lapp (Robert) and two sons, Ralph K. Scherer (Catherine) and Dale W. Scherer (Janet), all of Valencia, his grandchildren, Katie, Kurt, Megan, Ashley, Lindsay and Erin and his great grandchildren, Tyler, Maci and Max, two sisters, May Helmstaedter of Zelienople and Dorothy Scherer (Bob) of Beaver, two brothers, Regis Scherer (Peggy) of Gibsonia and James Scherer (Sandy) of Pgh., and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Nickl and Betty Scherer and his brothers, Robert, Benjamin, Herman and Charles “Ed” Scherer.

Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on Friday, May 13, 2016 (Today) from 2-4 & 7-8:30 PM.
