Shirley Protzman Obituary

Shirley Ann Protzman, age 91, of Fenelton, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025 after living a full and happy life.

She was born September 23, 1933, in Butler, to the late Raymond Clair Fair and Alice Grace Gould Fair.  She was a 1952 graduate of Fairview Twp-Karns City High School. Shirley married the love of her life, LaVerne Protzman in 1954. They were married for 54 years before LaVerne passed in 2009.

Shirley belonged to St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a member, teacher, and held various positions. Throughout her life, Shirley’s unwavering faith in God shone brightly.

Shirley retired from the Butler Area School District after 20 years of service.  Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of her family and community.

Traveling with her husband and family is what she delighted in the most. They traveled to all  50 states and 8 countries. Spending time at their camp in Marshburg, PA was another joy in her life, especially when family was present. 

Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Dwight (Linda) Protzman, of Saxonburg, her daughters, Rose (Randy) Morrow, of Fenelton, and Kate (David) LaSota of Patton, PA.;

Her six grandchildren, Grant (Ashley) Morrow, Jessica (Gunar) Montgomery, Hannah LaSota, Emily (Erik) Christensen, Lucas Morrow, and Elijah LaSota; as well as seven great grandchildren, Cash & Oakley Morrow, Layton Barney & Levi Morrow, Clark & Thomas Christensen, and Molly Montgomery.  She is also survived by her sister, Laura (George) Brothers, and one sister-in law, Emma Protzman, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne, three brothers,  Ronald, Richard, and Darrell Fair.

Friends and Family of Shirley Protzman, will be received in the Chapel of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 201 West Jefferson Street, Butler, PA on Thursday, January 16th from 2-4 and 6-8, and one hour before the service which will be held at Noon on Friday, January 17th in the main sanctuary with Reverend David Phillips, Senior Pastor, officiating.  Burial will take place at the Gruenwald Cemetery, Summit Township.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA and condolences are available at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com.
