Obituary

Saroja Jayamohan, age 74, of Mars, formerly of Chennai, India, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 16, 2023.

Born in Chennai, India on August 28, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Samuel G. Christmas and Ranjitham Christmas.

The Lord Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life and she devoted her life to please and to serve Him. As a devoted mother, she poured out her heart in sacrificial love and fervent prayers for her two cherished boys. In the wake of her husband's sudden passing in 1996, she drew upon God’s strength to navigate personal and familial challenges, providing unwavering support and encouragement to her still-young sons. Her love did not stop with her immediate family but it extended to her church family, relatives and those in her midst. She served her Lord, utilizing her melodious singing talents and generously opening her home to host Bible study sessions and small group church meetings. At the time of her passing, she was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church of Pittsburgh and loved her church family deeply.

Saroja had a passion for teaching, leading to her career as a Chemistry Professor at the University of Madras in India. Beyond her exceptional subject matter expertise, she forged deep connections with her students, taking a vested interest in their holistic development. Her role extended beyond the classroom as she guided and nurtured her students through both academic pursuits and personal challenges.

Saroja was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, solving Sudoku and Solitaire puzzles, singing, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her kind heart, and the wisdom she has imparted onto her family.

She is survived by her two sons and their families: Praveen Jayamohan and his wife, Saritha of Mars, PA and Premchand Jayamohan and his wife, Preeti of San Jose, CA, her grandchildren, Sharon, Alisha, Ashish, Timothy and James.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel P. Jayamohan who died in 1996, by her brothers, Lt. Col. H.S. Rajendran X’Mas and Prince X’Mas and by her granddaughter, Irene Grace.
