Ruth R. Bielo, of Mars, age 97, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 7, 2025.
Born October 17, 1927 in North Park, she was the daughter of the late F. Frank and Martha Raupp.
She attended Ingomar and Espe Elementary Schools and graduated from West View High School in 1945. As recently as 2022, Ruth and her high school classmates gathered annually to celebrate and reminisce. During her summers, Ruth worked at the family restaurant, Park View. She caught and sold night crawlers to the fishermen and sold popcorn to the picnickers. With the proceeds from the sales, Ruth put herself through college and medical school. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. Ruth was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority.
Ruth and Ed were married in 1951. She worked as a general practitioner in Mars prior to becoming a psychiatrist at Mayview State Hospital, its outpatient clinics, Western Psychiatric Hospital, and Irene Stacy Clinic.
Upon her retirement, Ruth joined the Women’s Club of Mars. She enjoyed the collaboration of sewing dolls with her friends in the club and the many hours of baking apple dumplings and pies for the Mars Applefest. Ruth also baked for the Mars Farmer’s Market. People lined up early for her cinnamon rolls, pies, cookies, and pepperoni rolls. Ruth enjoyed sewing, knitting, and gardening and especially loved her hostas and azaleas.
Traveling was another of Ruth’s favorite activities, and she loved sharing these experiences with others. Her greatest passion was her family. Ruth was always there to help with that next big project, making it just a bit more special, raising grandchildren, and holding great grandchildren. Her love and attention to her family was great. Throughout her life as a Lutheran, Ruth was a member of St John Highland, St Paul‘s North Park, Good Shepherd, and St John‘s in Mars churches.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Edward H. Bielo.
She is survived by her children Fritz (Susan) Bielo, Martha (Chuck) Davis, her grandchildren Elizabeth (Michael) Lewis, Sam Trocano (Theresa), Tess (Neil) Chichilla, great grandchildren Nora, Henry, Willa, Beau, and Claire, and numerous nieces and nephews.
