Richard J. Hartman, Sr., age 79, of Renfrew, formerly of Castle Shannon, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 13, 2023 at Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 25, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Edward and Florence Hartman, Richard graduated from Bethel Park High School, where he was a four year letterman in football and baseball.

Richard was a resourceful do-it-yourselfer and built his home and farm buildings with his own hands. Professionally, he was an engineer for M.S.A. in Cranberry Twp. and served for many years as a volunteer fire fighter with the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid golfer, card player and R/C plane enthusiast. His favorite past-time was mowing his acres of lawn.

Richard was a loving father, grandfather and husband who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. His family will always remember that he gave the best hugs.

Surviving are his wife, Laureen (Zakowski) Hartman, who he married on June 25, 1964, his children, Richard Hartman, Jr. (Judy) of Penn Twp., Kristen Forst (Dan) of Cranberry Twp., and Scott Hartman (Cheryl) of Crystal Lake, Ill. His grandchildren, Nicole, Rebekah, Daniel, Allison, Jessica and Molly, his beloved dog, “Lizabeth”, a sister, Ruth Ferguson of Germantown, Tenn. and his brothers, Edward Hartman (Johanna) of Allison Park and Lawrence Hartman of Houston, TX.

Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on Saturday from 2-4 & 6-7:30 PM. A Blessing Services will be held on Saturday at 5:45 PM. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
