Nancy A. Plenderleith, age 89, of Zelienople, formerly of Wexford, passed away on Saturday evening, October 23, 2021 at Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople.
Born in Champaign, Illinois on November 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Russell M. and Amelia Ruth DuVall Amm.
Nancy had a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of Illinois and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and the National Thespians-4 C’s. She also was active in Theda Sigma Phi, a women’s journalism honorary society.
She had worked as an editor for Our Wonderful World Children’s Encyclopedia for 3 years. She then worked as a reporter for Citizen’s Publishing Company in LaGrange, Illinois followed by working with various church and youth organizations. Finally, Nancy spent 17 years as a Certified Activity Coordinator for Country Meadows of the South Hills and St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars, before retiring in 2001.
She was a member of Dutilh United Methodist Church in Cranberry Twp.
Surviving are a son, Stephen T. Smith of New York City, two daughters, Amy Stewart (Robert Stewart) of Allison Park and Ann Plenderleith (James C. Schneider) of Willow Grove, PA and five grandchildren, Benjamin and Daniel Stewart, Joshua, Jonah and Abigail Grace Schneider.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Shearer Plenderleith, who she married on December 10, 1960 and who died on March 26, 2010 and by her daughter-in-law, Jan L. Linsky.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Dutilh Church, Cranberry Twp. at 11:00 AM and burial will be in Dutilh Cemetery, Cranberry Twp. Memorials may be made to World Vision or Brother’s Brother.
