Marjorie Kennedy Obituary

Marjorie J. Kennedy, age 93, of Mars, passed away on Thursday evening, March 6, 2025, with her family by her side at Rose Crest Assisted Living in Mars.

Born in Gibsonia, PA, on October 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Schott Cook. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Howard W. Cook.

She graduated from Mars High School in 1949.

Marge had been a bookkeeper for Koppers in Pittsburgh, Penney Hardware in Mars, and for Chuck Kennedy Auto Sales, well into her 80s.

Marge was a member of the Junior Women’s Club of Mars and a longtime member of the Mars United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She served on various committees and enjoyed her Sunday School Class. In later years, she attended the Mars United Presbyterian Church. She also belonged to the Mars Chapter #271 Order of the Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron from 1969-1970 (now Woodlawn O.E.S.).

She loved God, her family, her friends, and everything Edinboro Lake, where she spent summers with family and friends for over 60 years.

Surviving are her daughter, Cherie Smith (Rod) of Edinboro, and a son, Charles “Chuck” Kennedy (Cheryl) of Mars; her grandchildren, Stacie Bruce, Derek Bruce, Paul Smith (Colleen), Rebecca Coyle (William), Andrew R. Kennedy (Laurie), Clayton P. Kennedy (Lauren), and Brittany Kennedy; her great grandchildren, Makenna, Luke, and Jacob Smith, and Liam, Madeleine, and Asher Coyle; a brother-in-law, Lee “Bud” Steffler of Fombell; and her eight nieces, Wendy Lucas (Gary), Karen Steffler Renner, Patty Kerr (Jim), Valery Ciarimboli (Brian), Rebecca King (David), Susan Loring (Duke), Diane McDonald (Steve), and Robyn Lambert (Butch).

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. “Chuck” Kennedy, who she married on June 24, 1950, and who died on October 20, 2016, as well as by her brother and sister-in-law, G. Robert and Carole Kennedy, and her sister-in-law, Sally Lou Kennedy Steffler.

Special thanks and appreciation to the staff of St. John’s at Rose Crest Assisted Living with Memory Care and VNA Hospice. Your love and care for Marge in the final chapter of her life was amazing.

Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA, on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with her son-in-law, Rod Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Mars Cemetery.
