Mario A. Mazzola

Mario A. Mazzola, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 29,2023 in Valencia, PA.  He was a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. 

The youngest of three brothers, Mario was born of Italian immigrants on July 16, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, where he spent his formative years. He went on to attend the prestigious Cooper Union (New York, NY) and later became a mechanical engineer at General Electric.  He held multiple patents in steam turbine design, and his hard work and dedication earned him widespread recognition among his colleagues and peers.   

Despite his professional accomplishments, Mario’s greatest joy came from his family. He married his beloved wife, Mary, in 1969, and they shared a loving partnership for 54 years.  Together, they raised two children, who were the pride and joy of Mario’s life. After retiring from GE, Mario and Mary moved to Deerfield Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed walks on the beach and socializing with friends.  Mario was an avid handball player and enjoyed Saturday morning handball and breakfast with his Boca Raton handball buddies. 

Mario is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his children, Andrew (Karen) Mazzola of Sanford, FL, Claudia (John) Lee of Mars, PA and his grandson, Nicholas Mazzola of Sanford, FL. 

A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
