Lawrence "Larry" Jackson, III Obituary

Lawrence Melvin “Larry” Jackson III, age 32, of Pittsburgh, passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2025 at home.

Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on October 9, 1992, he was the son of Jo Ann Castelli Jackson and Lawrence Melvin Jackson II.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Larry was raised in a military family and lived and traveled around the world and across the United States, including Germany and Japan, Colorado, Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina, Montana, Hawaii and Pennsylvania.

He held a Bachelors and Masters Degree with Honors in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA and was a Brother of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He was a software engineer for Waabi AI Corporation in Pittsburgh.

Larry made his mark working on emerging technologies in several industries as a software engineer. He brought his education, experience, and passion to autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, and decentralized, distributed ledgers. Colleagues will remember his quick smile, quiet influence, and thoughtful feedback.

His interests and hobbies were many.

As a youngster, he spent many years in the Scouting Program around the world, achieving the status of Life Scout.

Larry took continuing-education classes in his areas of interest and had a variety of hobbies. He loved to be on the road when the weather was nice, and whether he was riding his motorcycles or driving one of his cars, chances are he would ask friends to join.

An avid shooter, Larry was a member of many sportsman’s and gun clubs.

He also had a passion for automobile and motorcycle track racing, both locally and at the internationally renown Nurburgring Raceway in Germany.

To stay active, he enjoyed strength training, yoga, and other outdoor activities. He would unwind by going to the sauna, camping, or meeting up for an impromptu barbecue. He was a member of several sportsmen’s clubs, and brought an engineering mindset to all his recreational activities.

While spending time with friends, Larry enjoyed listening to music, playing board games, and telling stories. He loved to cook for himself and those around him, and was a connoisseur of fine wines.

Patient and eager to teach, he introduced many people to his interests and freely gave of his time to listen, offer advice, or spend time together at a moment’s notice.

He also loved photography and animals.

In lieu of flowers, Larry would have preferred a donation to Action of Animals, 386 Route 217, Latrobe PA 15650, where Larry adopted his buddy, Phil The Cat.

Surviving are his mother, Jo Ann Jackson of Columbia, Maryland, his father, Lawrence Melvin Jackson II of Shelby, Alabama and family across the United States and in Europe.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 10am at The Crystal Room at Saint Nicholas Cathedral, 419 S Dithridge Street, Pittsburgh PA 15213.
