Joan Elaine (Rimel) Schmidt

Joan Elaine Schmidt, age 83, of Wexford, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Joan was born in Rayburn Twp., Armstrong County, PA on July 17, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Ralph S. and Alice Brown Rimel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Schmidt, who died on February 20, 1985.

Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Reidmiller (the late Mark) of Wexford, Beverly Schmidt (Deborah Wilson) of Beaver and Sherri Peterson of Shippenville. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Courtney Kush, Jourdan Cookson, Matthew Rodriguez, Alexandra Rodriguez, Carlen Rodriguez, Eamon Duncan, Wyatt Duncan and Felisity Peterson, as well as thirteen great grandchildren, with another on the way.

Joan was known by her family as "Granny."  Joan was happiest spending time quilting and crocheting, making beautiful handmade quilts and gifts for family and friends.  She was a member of the "Material Girls" quilters group. Joan was both an avid reader and a writer, and enjoyed many hours reading on her kindle. She had a strong, solid faith and shared membership between two churches: the English Lutheran Church in Zelienople, PA and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonia, PA, where she was a lifelong member.

Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Services will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Keplinger, officiating. Burial will be in Salem Methodist Cemetery, Pine Twp.,  PA.
