Helen Louise (Bowser) Kalan

Helen Louise Kalan, age 83, of Mars, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday morning, November 12, 2025 at 11:19 AM.

Born in Butler, PA on June 13, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Earl and Mildred L. Wolfe Bowser.

Helen graduated in 1960 from Butler Senior High School. She was a library assistant at Mars Public Library and a secretary at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Helen was an avid reader and talented designer and creator of handcrafted greeting cards and ceramic figurines for family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Robert J. Kalan, Sr., who she married on March 21, 1961. Their lifelong deep love for each other began in 10th grade at high school.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, Stephen Kalan and his wife, Leah of Mars, Victoria Kalan Petrie and her husband, Brandon of Pittsburgh and Kevin Kalan of Pittsburgh, three great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert L. Kalan, Jr., granddaughter, Erica Jean Kalan and sisters, Shirley VanBuren and Dorothy Bowser.

In accordance with Helen's wishes, a private visitation and blessing service was held at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA and condolences are available at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com. She was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Butler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mars Area Public Library, P.O. Box 415, Mars, PA 16046.
