Helen Hughes Obituary

Helen Regina (Migota) Hughes, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in Vinings, Georgia. Formerly of Ambridge and Ross Twp. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Samuel Richard Hughes, her sister, Betty Sumrak, and her brothers, Richard and Jeffrey Migota. Born on February 9, 1932, Helen’s greatest legacy was her devotion and attention to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Daniels and her children, Linda (William) Heil, Richard (Mary Ann), Stanley (Tracy), David (Debbie), and Holly (Robert) Hulse. She also adored her 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Born in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania, Helen lived most of her life in the greater Pittsburgh area. She spent time as a volunteer for both Dixmont Hospital and Kane Hospital. She and the family were long-time members of Christ Lutheran Church in North Hills. She played volleyball and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. In addition to her years of doting on her family, Helen loved traveling, both with Sam and after his passing. She visited most of the United States, spent many summers in Sparrow Lake, Canada and winters in Myrtle Beach, SC with friends, and made several trips abroad to Germany and China. In her final years, Helen lived in Georgia with her sister Kay and later in assisted living and memory care.

Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on SUNDAY, MARCH 3, 2024 from 1-4:00 PM.  Services will follow at 4:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless Twp., PA. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).
