George Hensel Obituary

George T. Hensel, age 83, of Mars, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 25, 2024 at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born in Lawrenceville, PA on September 19, 1941, he was the son of the late Frederick W. and Frances G. Hall Hensel.

George had been a truck driver for Russell Standard for over 30 years.

In his younger years, he was the founder of Mars Area Recreational Sports. He had been a coach for multi-sports teams with youth football, basketball and baseball and had been an official for the PIAA for sports.

He had received the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award.

George was a life-member of the Mars Volunteer Fire Company, now Adams Area Fire District.

He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish at St. Kilian Church, where he had served on church council.

George had also served on the Mars Boro Council.

Beloved husband of Patricia Weissert Hensel, who he married on September 2, 1961, father of George Hensel, II (Tammy) of Cranberry Twp. and his daughter, Lacee Bertram (Michael) and their children, Camille, Delaney and Lucy, Gereme Hensel (Carol) and their children, Colin, Cameron and Emilia, Chelsea Benson (Steve), Tyler Hensel and Michael Stevens (Dana) and their children, Sophia and Sammy; Michael Hensel (Vicki) of Mars and their children, Austin, Danielle, Mikayla and Ethan; Michele Thomas (Timmy) of Grandy, N.C. and their children, Justin Thomas (Brandi) and their children, Ava, Adalynn and Colson, Jordan Thomas and Mackenzie Thomas; Suzanne Kiley (Don) of Bellbrook, Ohio and their children, Donald Kiley, II (Alexis) and their children, Aiden, Avery and Grayson, Angelica Matthews (Noah), and Victoria and Benjamin Kiley; and Brian Hensel (Kimberly) of Churchville, PA and their children, Hunter, Maggie and Garrett Hensel and a brother-in-law, Jerome Hornyak of Valencia and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick and his sisters, Genevieve Barber, Jane Hornyak, Regina McKee and Sr. Sarah Marie Hensel and Patti Hensel, George II’s first spouse.

Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Kilian Church, 7076 Franklin Rd. Cranberry Twp., PA 16066 on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Rev. Charles Bober, pastor, officiating. Please meet at the church. Burial will be in Mars Cemetery, Adams Twp., PA.
