Elmer A. Gerst, age 88, formerly of McCandless Twp., passed away on Monday evening, September 27, 2021 at Shelbourne Assisted Living in Penn Twp.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 11, 1933, he was son of the late Charles and Rose Satariano Gerst.
Elmer had been a salesman for Sugardale Foods and later worked as a Supervisor for Allegheny County Public Works at the Pittsburgh Airport.
He was a member of St. Alexis Church and belonged to the Wexford Knights of Columbus Council 3907.
Elmer had served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Husband of Margaret Ogden Gerst, who he married on January 14, 1956, father of Charles Gerst (Jackie) of Tionesta, Vicki Roberson (Larry) of Colonial Beach, VA, Chris Linn (Joe) of Millvale, Peg Lehew (Mark) of Wexford and Jan Richards (Dan) of Wexford. Also 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Brother of Catherine (the late Dante) DiMaio of Canton, Ohio and Rose (the late Jim) Baierl of Ross Twp.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chuckie Gerst and by a brother, Charles Gerst.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Kilian Church, 7076 Franklin Rd. Cranberry Twp., PA 16066 on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 12:30 PM. Please meet at the church. Fr. Charles Bober, pastor, will officiate. Entombment with Marine Corps Honors will be in Christ Our Redeemer Mausoleum, Ross Twp., PA.
