Edward Stanley Yavorsky
March 13, 1947 – June 25, 2025
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Edward "Butch" Stanley Yavorsky, a proud United States Navy veteran, devoted family man, and loyal friend. Ed passed away on June 25, 2025, at the age of 78 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on March 13, 1947, to Edward Sr. and Beatrice Yavorsky, Ed was affectionately known as “Butch” to his siblings, Rich and Carol. He graduated from East Conemaugh High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on March 20, 1965. During the Vietnam War, Ed honorably served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CVA-43).
After his military service, Ed pursued his education at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1974. He went on to have a distinguished 38-year career, beginning with Sperry Corporation and retiring from Lockheed Martin, where he worked on projects including inertial navigation systems for nuclear submarines, gravimetric exploration technologies, and positive train control systems.
Ed was a man of loyalty and heart, celebrating 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Cynthia (Lynch). He was a proud and supportive father to sons Michael (Jennifer) and Matthew (Kelley), and a cherished “Pap Pap” to granddaughters Béla, Noelle, and Evan. He is also survived by his brother Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol “Cookie” Yavorsky.
A lifelong fan of the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates, Ed was also an avid golfer, a connoisseur of golumpki, kielbasa and pierogi and enjoyed trying his luck at the slots at the Rivers Casino.
Ed will be laid to rest with military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his quiet strength, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family
