Edith Baehr Obituary

Edith S. Baehr, age 87, of McCandless Twp., died on Saturday morning, July 31, 2021.  

She was preceded in death by her sister, Althea S. Pruitt, and parents, Althea H. Sweeney and Myles S. Sweeney of Kenner, LA and her husband of 62 years, Fred J. Baehr Jr., in 2016.

Born in New Orleans, LA on December 18, 1933, she was a graduate of Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and married in October of that year.

She worked at Charity Hospital in New Orleans until assuming her role as mother and homemaker in Metairie, LA and Pensacola, FL.  She subsequently worked in Day Care in Webster Groves MO, and in the Burn Unit at Barnes Hospital until moving to Export PA in 1970.

Edith resumed her education, graduating as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) from Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA in 1974.  She finished her career as an anesthetist at Braddock General Hospital and Jeanette Hospital retiring in 1992.

Edith and Fred moved to a retirement community in Keowee Key, South Carolina, where they lived until the summer of 2013, moving to Vincentian Villas in the Town of McCandless, PA.

She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, a Cub Scout Den Mother, enjoyed sewing, painting watercolors, and was a reluctant golfer with her husband.  She was a sailor, clog dancer, cross country and downhill skier, bridge player and enjoyed a wide group of friends.

She celebrated 62 years of marriage until her husband’s death, and is survived by her brother, Myles S. Sweeney of Baton Rouge LA. , her son, Fritz Baehr of Mars, his children, Angela Baehr of Wexford, PA, Jacob Baehr in Butler, PA, and Sarah Baehr in Helena, MT, her daughter, Ellen and Dan Noble of Hollywood, FL and their children, DJ Noble in Davie, FL and Katie Garrett of Tallahassee, FL, and her daughter, Katie and Robert Wood and their children, Nicole Curtin, and Tyler Wood of Buffalo, NY, and Brandon Wood of Alexandria, VA, and her 15 great-grandchildren.

A private funeral mass will be held at St Kilian's Church in Cranberry Twp.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Walhalla, 170 Bountyland Rd.
