Don Smith Obituary

Don Erwin Smith, age 75, of Adams Twp., formerly of Coraopolis, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford.

Born on November 19, 1946 in Moon Twp., he was the son of the late Charles Joseph and Helen Hassam Smith.


Don was a graduate of Coraopolis High School in 1964. He attended Washington and Jefferson where he received his bachelor of arts degree. Don played on W&J’s basketball and baseball teams. He also attended University of Purdue graduate school.

He then taught for four years in Pattani, Thailand at the Prince of Songklah University. There he met his wife, Saiporn, who is a graduate of Songklah University. He taught English in the Pattani university as a member of the Peace Corps. His work also included assisting in bridge and building construction.

Don was an avid reader and writer as well. His poetry has been published and he has several novels as well.

Don was an educator for ICM School of Business in Pittsburgh. He also served in the Peace Corps.

Surviving is his wife, Saiporn Chalardpru Smith, who he married on May 6, 1975; his daughters, Noona (William) Vehovic of Mars and Supinda Smith (Nicholas Giebel) of Coraopolis; two grandchildren, Elliot and Avelin Vehovic; and his sisters, Carol Smith in VA, Charlene (Wayne) Creese in FL, Debbie Smith of New Galilee, PA , and Marsha Smith of Matamoras, PA.
