Daniel Duker, M.D. Obituary

Daniel G. Duker, M.D., of Gibsonia, formerly of Ingomar, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 26, 2022 at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Twp., with his family by his side.

Born in West Aliquippa, PA on September 30, 1931 to the late Stephen D. and Mary Varhola Duker.

Daniel was preceded in death by his sister, Juliann (Paul) Smerigan, brothers, Igor S. Duker and Raymond M. (Mary Jane) Duker, and sister, Olga M. (Joseph) Mackin. He is survived by his sister, Peggy Duker Chabala (John Robert) of Dallas, TX and his brother, Monsignor Russell A. Duker, S.E.O.D. Additionally, Daniel is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A man of deep faith and strong commitment to his family, church, education and a strong work ethic, he is survived by his wife, Janet E. (Shema) Duker, children, Jennifer M. (James) Tracy of Marshall Twp. and Daniel G. Duker, Jr. (Susan) of Gibsonia, and his  grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Hailey and Morgan.

After completing his undergraduate work at the University of Pittsburgh, he graduated from the University’s Medical School in 1958.  After completing his internship at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, he enlisted in the Army and was commissioned as a Captain in the Medical Corp of the U.S. Army.

Upon completion of his military service, Dr. Duker returned to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh for a Residency in Anesthesiology. Following completion of his Residency, he relocated to North Hills Passavant Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1964. Dr. Duker was the first Chief of Anesthesia in the Department he founded and developed for 37 years. After 47 years of service, Dr. Duker retired in 2009. Dr. Duker also served on the Passavant Board of Trustees, as well as being a leader in and out of the operating room.

A private Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Kilian Church, Cranberry Twp., PA with Fr. Charles Bober, pastor, officiating. Entombment was in the Mausoleum at Holy Savior Cemetery in Richland Twp.  The family suggests memorial contributions to either St. Paul Seminary, 2900 Noblestown Rd.
