Charles Richard "Rick" Woods, of Gibsonia, formerly of Munhall, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, age 76. Son of the late Charles W. and Winifred M. (Murphy) Woods, born November 1, 1949 in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy Ann (Luptak) Woods; loving father of Michael (Elizabeth) Woods and the late Charles Joseph Woods; proud and devoted Pap Pap to Katherine Maisie and Michael Patrick Woods.
Rick proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Specialist 5th Class (SP5) and earning an Honorable Discharge. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster. Rick loved his country deeply and often said he would have re-enlisted in his 70s if the Army would have had him.
Rick was a dedicated coach who gave countless hours to the youth of his community, holding a Level 5 USA Hockey certification. He coached Munhall Hockey, Munhall Baseball, Steel Valley Midget Football, Steel Valley Hockey, Bethel Park Hockey, Team Pittsburgh, and the Amateur Pens at the Squirt, Pee-Wee, and Major Midget levels. Rick took immeasurable pride in the success of his former players, many of whom went on to distinguished careers as FBI agents, police officers, and attorneys. He measured his success not by wins and losses but by the men his players became.
An avid golfer and proud member of Treesdale Golf and Country Club, Rick was known for his love of his front porch, his social nature, and his gift for conversation. He never met a stranger.
Also survived by his siblings Joanne (Woods) Kisiel, J. Barry Woods, John P. Woods, and Thomas E. Woods; his sister-in-law Joanne (Grublin) Woods; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Kevin and Donna (Luptak) Ondo and Kenneth and Debi Luptak.
