Joseph Tommaney Obituary

Joseph W. Tommaney, age 88, of Mars, formerly of Middlesex Twp., passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 13, 2019 at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Twp.

Born on December 9, 1930 in Albany, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Mary Margaret McCarroll Tommaney. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Tommaney.

Joe was a research metallurgist for Allegheny Ludlum, where he held sixteen patents relating to the steel making process.

He was a member of St. Kilian Church, where he had been an usher. He was a former member of Holy Sepulcher Church and enjoyed bowling with the senior league in Mars.

He had served in the Army National Guard during peacetime.

Surviving are his wife, Reta Curren Tommaney, who he married May 8, 1955, three daughters, Sheila Pappas (Mickey) of Mars, Linda Bridger (Stephen) of Saegertown, and Kathleen Tommaney of Mars, two sons, Timothy Tommaney of Export and Kevin Tommaney (Tiffany) of Saegertown, his grandchildren, Jessica, Vanessa, Jordyn, Marshall, Lacey, Todd, Katie, Zara and Zaiden, 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Mary Anne Tommaney, and two brothers, Michael Tommaney (Sandy) and James Tommaney, all of Albany, N.Y.,  and a sister-in-law, Joan Tommaney of N.J.

Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on Sunday from 4-7 PM. A Blessing Service will follow at 7:00 PM at the funeral home, with Rev. Charles Bober, officiating. Burial will be in Mars Cemetery, Adams Twp. Memorials may be made to St. Kilian Church, 7076 Franklin Rd. Cranberry Twp., PA 16066.
