John Rankin Mitchell, age 82, of Pine Twp., Gibsonia, passed away on Monday morning, September 17, 2018 at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Twp.
Born in Coal Center, PA on September 7, 1936, he was the son of the late Robert and Isabella Brown Mitchell.
John had been a Boilermaker for Union Local 154.
He was a member and Associate Pastor of Scenic Hill Church and was a volunteer chaplain at Valencia Woods, St. John Specialty Care Center and Passavant Rehab Center.
He had served in the United States Army and belonged to several organizations such as the Mars American Legion, St. Andrew’s Society, the Corrinthean Lodge #573 F. & A.M., the Knights Templar, and 40 and 8.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Miller Mitchell, who he married on June 16, 1962, three sons, John Mitchell, Jr. (Missy) of Columbia, MD., Eric Mitchell (Sharon) of Gilbertsville, PA and Joshua Mitchell (Carrie) of Gibsonia, six grandchildren, one great grandchild and two sisters, Mary Hughes (Bill) of Ellwood City, PA and Sandra Jenkins (Frank) of Shaler Twp.
Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM, with his son, John Mitchell, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park, Cranberry Twp., PA.
