Hugh Trautmann Obituary

Hugh M. Trautmann  passed away peacefully Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the ripe age of 84, formerly of Renfrew, PA. Born March 24, 1934 in Santa Monica, California, to the late Herbert L. Trautmann, and Marjorie M. (Milner). He is predeceased by his wife Barbara J (Bittner); his brother, Phillip Trautmann (Mary Asher) of Laguna Beach, California, and his fraternal twin, John Trautmann (Jane McCleeve) of San Jose, California.

Hugh is survived by his 5 children, Susan Crist (Peter Crist) of Saxonburg, PA, Timothy Trautmann of Columbus, Ohio, Peter Trautmann (Steve Shipp) of Columbus, Ohio, Merrill Jacques (Kevin Jacques) of Rocky River, Ohio, and Anne Trautmann of Taos, New Mexico.

He is also survived by 5 granddaughters, Devon Norris (Joe Norris), Emily Mueller (Ken Mueller), Alexandria Crist, Laura Crist, Jordan Jacques and 1 grandson, Henry Hugh Jacques; also by 2 great granddaughters and 1 great-grandson.

His early work consisted of tool and design engineering work for many companies on the west coast. Starting in 1970, he became employed by Billco Manufacturing of Zelienople, PA as a design engineer.  With Billco, Hugh’s innovation helped improve the flat-glass residential and automotive manufacturing process for years. He was the right person at the right time for the glass industry. He retired in 2003 as Chief Design Engineer.

He loved his family. His favorite holiday was Independence Day, it wasn’t unusual for him to play a practical joke on a family member on that holiday. With his elaborate machine shop, he would rarely turn away a project or problem for a friend.  He enjoyed ending the week at Billco with a friendly night of poker with his co-workers.  He instilled in his children a sense of humor in good and bad times.  Over a fire in the family outdoor firepit, we have enjoyed many laughs and stories with Hugh (our Dad).

A graveside service for Hugh will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at the Brownsdale Cemetery, Brownsdale Road, Butler, PA with Rev. Susan Brown, officiating. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Hugh to the Butler Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA and condolences are available at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com.
