Albert Hagen Jr. Obituary

Albert C. Hagen Jr., age 88, of Mars, passed away on Friday morning, August 3, 2018 at VNA Hospice in Butler.

Born on January 7, 1930 in Gibsonia, PA, he was the son of the late Albert C. and Gertrude Burk Hagen.

Al graduated from Mars High School, and Duff’s Iron City College with a certificate in constructive accounting, and Pittsburgh Automation, a division of Duff’s.

He proudly served four years in the United States Air Force near the end of the Korean War as an accounting technician, then four years in the inactive reserves. He was discharged as Staff Sergeant.

He retired in 1987, after 35 years, from North Pittsburgh Telephone Company as a Data Processing Manager.

Al loved to volunteer. He volunteered for several years with Contact Pittsburgh and served a term on their board of directors. He then drove a school bus for nine years for the Pine Richland School District. He also volunteered at the Veterans Hospital in Butler for nine years.

He was a paid up for life member of American Legion Post 787 and was a member of North Main Street Church of God.

He was a loving husband, amazing father and loving grandfather. His number one joy was spending time with his family.

Surviving are his daughters, Beverly Ann (Sherman) Tester of Conneaut Lake and Maxine Hagen of Butler; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Donald) Rohall of Sewickley Heights; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jean R. Hagen, who he married on June 9, 1951 and died on May 28, 2017; a daughter, Sandra Leigh Smith; and a granddaughter, Nicole Vaughn.

Friends are invited to a Memorial Service at the North Main St. Church of God, 1201 N.  Main St Ext, Butler, PA 16001 on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 4:00 PM. The family will greet friends from 3-4 in the church. Burial will be in Mars Cemetery, Adams Twp.
