Fred A. Smith, age 90, of Mars, died Monday evening, August 8, 2016 at Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born in Richland Twp., PA on October 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Denver and Ida Elizabeth Snyder Smith.

Fred retired after 34 years as a Chief Master Sgt. with the Air National Guard at the Pittsburgh Airport.  He had served as a Chief Master Sgt. with the United States Air Force during W.W. II. 

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mars, was a Past President of the Mars AARP, a life member of the Handyman of America and the NRA.

A member of the Mars American Legion Post 787, he was Butler County Veteran of the Year for 2007-08. He also belonged to the Enlisted and Sgts. Associations.

Surviving are his wife, T. Jane Ehrhart Smith, who he married on November 23, 1950, a son, Fred M. Smith and his wife, Kathleen of York, a daughter, Patricia J. Smith of Mars, his grandchildren, Krystle Smith, and Justin, Evan and Johanna Smith.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Mae Miller and a brother, Denver Smith.

Friends will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc. 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, PA on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with Rev.
